Happening Now

I just blew up my whole life and moved 3500km away to the other side of the country to pursue my dream of living by the Pacific Ocean. I have some friends in town and a beautiful apartment and I am feeling like I can truly breathe for the first time in a long time. My days are filled with going to new places and seeing people and trying new things and looking for work. I'm temporarily taking care of a cat for the first time ever. Despite the chaos of a move, life feels very good. I am slowly trying to see everyone I know for coffee and/or beers now that I have groceries in my fridge and furniture in my house. Shout out to Leon for helping me move all my things and spending a chaotic day trying to drive and park a pick-up truck at the local Costco.

Listening to:

I've been listening to a lot of Radiohead since landing here. Thom Yorke's Hearing Damage single got stuck in my head on the plane over which reminded me how much I love In Rainbows (possibly one of the best albums ever?). It's been my go-to while walking around the moody rainy city. The cat in my house seems to really like the album too, maybe she is a reincarnated spirit of an r/indieheads user.

Looking at:

This are.na channel on gang business cards. The typography is awesome. Inspo for my next personal business card once I run out of the ones I have.

The Criterion Channel has put out a 'Fresh Starts' collection this month, of movies that all involve uprooting a life and starting anew. It's perfect timing for me, so I'll be making my way through them. I watched Sleepless in Seattle yesterday - it's a warm cup of tea sort of movie. Next up I'll be watching Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, which is the Scorsese movie I've wanted to see the most but just never have.

I'm also loving this season of Canada's Drag Race!!! Seriously one of my favourite seasons of any Drag Race franchise ever.

Reading:

Just finished the short story White Nights by Dostoevsky. Currently finishing Pirate Care: Acts Against the Criminalization of Solidarity. I'm also picking up Infinite Jest again now that I have an e-reader and I don't need to lug around that thing until I'm finished with it. Maybe I will finish it this time...my love of David Foster Wallace will power me through.

Writing:

I'm working on a fiction short story about online radicalization. It needs some work but I'm going to start properly editing the draft this week. As always thinking about blog posts... something incoming soon about cities.

Happy new year to you all! xoxo
