Happening Now
- Going to the beach minimum twice a week just to read and write and hang out. First time in my life I've ever lived in a place where I can do this and I won't be wasting the opportunity.
- Just ran my first half-marathon!! Thanks to all the friends & fam for the love and support!! It's fun to be running without a training plan but now I'm a bit directionless. Should I run a marathon now?
- New job (yay!) Adjusting routines to being employed again & really excited to dive into meaningful work
- Really excited about acquiring new modes of transportation this summer, need a bike and a stand-up paddle board ASAP
Listening to:
Sophia Kourtesis just put out a DJ-Kicks set that is SOOOOO freaking good. Been listening to it while running/jumping/screaming/waking up. Lots of good tracks from artists I like, with a special mention to Avalon Emerson and Logic1000. Listen here:
I also read Mark Fisher's Ghosts of My Life recently and have been listening to some of the music he writes on there. Here's a few tracks I've been liking:
Looking at:
Just saw Blue Heron (2025) and cried so hard. Also spent lots of April at the Chantal Akerman retrospective and found my new favourite movie in Les Rendez-vous d'Anna (1979). It's been a pretty good year for me and movies, been watching some stuff that has really felt like it's changed me.
Reading:
I officially hit my reading goal of 25 books for the whole year, which is the most I've read in actual years. Maybe since I was a kid. Right now I'm reading I Love Dick by Chris Kraus and How Music Works by David Byrne. I got the Byrne one as an x-mas gift so many years ago and I'm only just coming around to reading it!
In the last month I've also read:
Ghosts of My Life by Mark Fisher
All Fours by Miranda July
Reservoir Bitches by Dahlia de la Cerda
Still Life by Katherine Packert Burke
Bluets by Maggie Nelson
Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar
Time Is the Thing a Body Moves Through by T. Fleischmann
Females by Andrea Long Chu
On Women by Susan Sontag
Of all these - I'm recommending Reservoir Bitches and Time Is The Thing a Body Moves Through. Everything else was enjoyable or at least okay, but those two were standouts for sure. I'm thinking about posting a mid-year book wrap-up once we're solidly in June, so stay tuned...
Writing:
Working on a blog post about fun. Working on a blog post about desire. Working on writing about the future of cinema and its interactions with the internet. Working on writing something about the internet as always. Maybe something will materialize soon for you to read.
