sam's internet house

Happening Now

The weather's been outrageously beautiful, sun coming in through my curtains every morning and the ability to go for a run in a t-shirt and shorts. I've been reading a lot and seeing people and trying to learn what type of person I am when I'm in an environment that I love.

In these February days I am:

I'm also between jobs at the moment, so I've been reaching out to people and #networking. Putting out into the universe for the blog that I'm currently looking for work in Vancouver, on the chance that you, dear reader, may be looking to hire someone. I'm interested in protecting digital rights, working with or for artists, contributing to Canadian politics, and doing any advocacy work that makes life better for our vulnerable neighbours. I've got experience in government and communications, I like to think that I am a good speaker & writer (see for yourself on this site), and I genuinely adore working with people on huge and ambitious projects. If you've got a lead, I would love to hear from you, so drop me a line:

Listening to:

This Ninajirachi track is such an earworm and I've been listening to it on repeat for running or just to get out of bed on a rainy day.

We've gotten a few more records for the house. A few of the latest things that have been on the turntable: The Very Best of Gordon Lightfoot, and Inala by Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Looking at:

Have not been watching many movies! Likely going to see Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie when it comes out next week and I've re-activated my MUBI subscription to finally watch Die, My Love and the Mastermind.

Reading:

On the recommendation of AV I've just finished Nevada by Imogen Binnie, which I mostly enjoyed. Maybe 'enjoyed' isn't quite the right word, the protagonists of this story made me deeply anxious, which is a testament perhaps to the strength of Binnie's writing.

Writing:

There's this story that's been floating around in my head for sometime that I'm finally starting to get down on the page. The character I keep seeing is very very angry and it has been tiring to try and get her inner monologue to flow well. Sometimes writing can be very painful and so this story is tough to work on, ultimately though I must imagine that it will be beneficial in some way... more to follow.
